What is Software Engineering ?

Software Engineering Undergraduate Program aims to train engineers who can identify user requirements, design and develop software, use information technologies to meet the needs of the industry, keep up with changes and produce solutions with the contribution of basic engineering and mathematics. Students who successfully complete the program are Software Engineers who are equipped to take part in software projects at all levels such as analysis, design, coding, testing and management, can develop mobile and web-based applications, and have knowledge and experience in the most up-to-date fields such as data science and artificial intelligence.

Software Engineering is one of the branches of science that emerged from computer science and has been influential in the formation and progress of today’s technology standards. As an engineering discipline, Software Engineering deals with all aspects of the software needed. These can be briefly described as designing, developing, testing, evaluating, analyzing and maintaining the software. A person who develops software in accordance with the software engineering discipline becomes a software engineer.

Where a Software Engineer Works?

Software engineering graduates can work in the public, private and academic sectors in Turkey and in many technology companies operating in the academic and private sectors abroad. They can work by applying software engineering disciplines in many business areas such as Defense Industry, Banking, Communication and Communication, Artificial Intelligence, Health.

Information about the Program

26 students were admitted to the Software Engineering program, which started education in 2022. According to the 2022 YKS preference rankings, the ranking of the students placed in the program is in the first 30 thousand. The Software Engineering program has a 4-year undergraduate curriculum. Starting with the basics of mathematics and computers, many applied courses related to the field are given until software engineering specialization. In order for our engineer candidates to successfully graduate from the program, they must also complete compulsory summer internships. The language of instruction of the program is Turkish. There are a total of 6 academic staff in our department, including 1 professor, 3 assistant professors and 2 research assistants. Considering the number of students accepted, our professors working in our department continue their education and training activities with a ratio of approximately one academic staff to 3 students.
