What is Software Engineering?

Software Engineering is a field that emerged from computer science and has played a significant role in the formation and advancement of today’s technological standards. As an engineering discipline, Software Engineering deals with all aspects of the required software. These can be briefly explained as the design, development, testing, evaluation, analysis, and maintenance of software. A person who develops software in accordance with the discipline and standards of software engineering is called a software engineer.

Where Does a Software Engineer Work?

Graduates of Software Engineering can work in various fields within the country, including the public sector, private sector, and academia, while abroad they can find opportunities in both academia and numerous technology companies operating in the private sector. They can apply software engineering disciplines in many industries such as Defense, Banking, Communication, Artificial Intelligence, and Healthcare. With these competencies, they may work under titles such as Software Developer, Designer, Project Manager, Software Specialist and Analyst, Database Programmer, Business Intelligence Specialist and Consultant, Data Scientist, and Data Engineer.

About the Program

The Software Engineering program started in 2022, admitting 26 students in its first year, 41 in the second year, and 67 in the third year. In the 2023 YKS exam, students ranked within the top 25,000 were admitted, while in the 2024 YKS, students within the top 35,000 secured a place in the program.

The program offers a 4-year undergraduate curriculum in Turkish, beginning with the foundations of mathematics and computer science and progressing toward expertise in software engineering. It also includes a mandatory summer internship.

Our department currently has 10 academic staff members, consisting of 2 associate professors, 3 assistant professors (PhD), 3 research assistants, along with 1 professor and 1 assistant professor (PhD) appointed to teach courses. In addition, there are 1 associate professor and 3 assistant professors (PhD) under evaluation, and the recruitment of 3 new faculty members is planned for 2025.

The Software Engineering Department at Ankara University aims to provide its students with a strong engineering foundation by offering a curriculum designed according to international standards. Transportation & Accommodation

ransportation:
Access to our department is available via school shuttles, EGO buses (104, 105, 106), and minibuses. Faster access to the campus is possible through express lines (114, 115). Minibuses operate from Ulus to the campus.

Accommodation:
In Gölbaşı, KYK-affiliated and private dormitories for male and female students are located close to the campus. Since 2016, Ankara University’s 50th Year Campus has provided new dormitories and social facilities with a capacity of over 4,000 students. The campus also has canteens and cafeterias.
